M.B. is utilizing an augmentative communication device, the Light Writer, to aid him in verbalization. This device has a voice synthesizer and is portable enabling M.b. to keep the device comfortably with him at all times. He demonstrates severe dysarthria making it difficult to articulate the sounds needed to produce speech. M.B. has become fluent with the Light Writer which enables him to actively communicate with his therapists and peers dramatically reducing his level of frustration. It also gives him freedom to communicate during outing and trips to his family's home and the community.
